Barnett HyperTac Pro 430 Crossbow Review

Barnett's flagship crossbow for 2025 has finally arrived! Here is our review of the Barnett HyperTac Pro 430. This brand-new high-performance crossbow is well suited for big game hunting and is packed with cutting-edge technologies.

This year Barnett also released the HyperTac 420 and the Hyper Whitetail 410. All of Barnett's crossbows and most of its components are made in the USA.

The HyperTac Pro 430 arrived fully assembled with an integrated crank cocking mechanism and is "ready to hunt" right out of the box. In the package, we found the HyperTac Pro 430 crossbow for deer hunting, three 22-inch HyperFlite arrows, a 1.5-5x32mm speed-compensated illuminated scope, a side mount quiver, and lubrication wax.

Barnett HyperTac Pro 430 Specs

  • Speed: 430 FPS
  • Weight: 8.9 lbs
  • Width Cocked (Axle-to-Axle): 9.5"
  • Power Stroke: 14.25"
  • Draw Weight: 255 lbs
  • Price: $945.99

Design and Construction

The HyperTac Pro is a well-designed crossbow with a durable construction, all parts feel solid and expensive. Barnett clearly designed the HyperTac Pro 430 to be a powerful crossbow that is still maneuverable for hunting blinds. The crossbow is long and narrow, measuring an axle-to-axle width of 9.5 inches when cocked.

The HyperTac Pro 430 tips the scales at 8.9 pounds. Because the best crossbow is really well-balanced, it doesn't feel that heavy. This is due to the traditional front end design and narrow rear end, making the HyperTac Pro an incredibly balanced crossbow for stable shooting.

The HyperTac Pro is fully customizable for a perfect custom fit. You can adjust the micro-adjustable buttstock and cheekpiece for a comfortable length-of-pull, and you can even use the flip-down verti-grip palm rest to shoot AR-style.

The crossbow features a pass-through forend with an articulating verti-grip palm rest to handle for stable shooting and enhanced downrange accuracy. Its machined CNC machined aluminum flight track also helps increasing its downrange accuracy.

The HyperTac Pro 430 utilizes Barnett's new patented integrated string hook system and features three Picatinny rails. One on which the scope is mounted and two for additional accessories. Barnett also equipped the crossbow with string dampeners. They help dampen the noise of the crossbow during the shooting process. They also reduce vibrations.

The HyperTac Pro features Mossy Oak Terra Floodplains on its limbs and the camo covers parts of the stock.

Halo Scope

The HyperTac Pro 430 comes with a high-end 1.5-5x32mm Halo scope. This scope features a speed compensator to match any crossbow shooting between 300-435 feet per second. The Halo scope is crystal clear to look through for a clear view of vision and performs great.

The Halo scope is illuminated for low light conditions. You can choose between red or green illumination with a push on the on/off button. You can also adjust illumination intensity control. The scope very is easy to zero in and comfortable to work with.

Triggertech Trigger

The HyperTac Pro 430 is equipped with a crisp zero creep TriggerTech trigger system. This 3-pound trigger system contains Frictionless Release Technology which does not rely on, polishing or lubricating the key engagement surfaces, ensuring trigger pulls will be more consistent from shot to shot even after thousands of rounds. The trigger is metal injection molded (MIM).

Safety

The HyperTac Pro 430 is packed with safety features. Its TriggerTech trigger assembly contains nock sensors and an anti-dry fire (ADF) mechanism that prevents accidental dry firing, which could damage the crossbow or even worse damage the user.

The HyperTac Pro 430 is outfitted with a Soft Lok Floating Bristle Arrow Retainer that keeps your arrows from drifting and finger placement reminders under the flight deck protect your fingers and thumbs from getting in the way of strings flight path during shooting.

Cocking

I have to say this is the best crossbow for the money on the market. You know it is easy to cock with its integrated crank cocking mechanism with a quick-detach push-button handle. With just a push on the button, you can detach the handle. This cocking device allows you to effortlessly cock the crossbow really fast. The crank reduces cocking tension to merely 7 pounds, so the HyperTac Pro 430 can be cocked safely and effortlessly by anyone.

Arrows and Quiver

The HyperTac Pro utilizes Barnett's Hyperflite technology, which allows the crossbow to shoot small diameter arrows downrange with incredible precision. According to Barnett, the arrows penetrate 25 percent deeper than their competition this year.

One advantage of smaller diameter arrows is that they also perform better in windy conditions. Arrows with a smaller diameter have the ability to cut through the wind, so to speak, and maintain a more accurate course compared to arrows that have a standard diameter.

Hyper Flite arrows penetrate really well. They have no difficulty puncturing the hardest surfaces. After penetrating an animal's skin, the arrow can cut through vital organs and deliver a faster, cleaner, and more ethical kill.

HyperFlite arrows are 22 inches long and have a straightness of .001". They come with 100 grain field tips and capture nocks.

Barnett's quivers were not among my favorites recently, however having said that, this Premium multi-position side mounts premium quick detach quiver is a great high quality, lightweight quiver that holds a total of three arrows.

Speed and Accuracy

The 230 pound draw weight and 14.25-inch power stroke allow this beast of a crossbow to shoot small diameter arrows downrange with speeds up to 430 feet per second with high precision long-distance accuracy. Barnett speed tested the crossbow using 380 grain arrows.

As I already mentioned, this is an extremely accurate crossbow. I was highly accurate on long distances delivering within 2-inch arrow groupings at 74-yards.

Assembly and Maintenance

The HyperTac Pro arrived fully assembled and ready-to-hunt straight out of the box. I only had to sight in the scope and I was set. If you are a beginner to crossbow hunting or if this is your first crossbow then we recommend reading the instruction manual and the warranty.

Maintain the crossbow well and it will last you a lot longer. Once in a while check the string and cables for any signs of fraying; replace them before further use if you see any frays. It is also wise to apply lubricating wax to the string and cables every 5 to 10 shots to extend the life of the string and cables.

Recommended Accessories

Arrows and Broadheads

We recommend using Barnett 22-inch HyperFlight arrows and pair them with Rage crossbow X broadheads. These mechanical broadheads are optimized for high-velocity crossbows. They come in either 100 grain or 125 grain and deliver a 2-inch cut.

Storage and Transportation

The HyperTac Pro 430 comes without an official Barnett case. We recommend buying a Guide Gear Deluxe universal crossbow Case. This case is water-resistant and features a 1.5-inch thick padded interior to keep the crossbow safe. The case has an adjustable shoulder strap and a side grab strap. The case only weighs 2.43 pounds.

If you want a crossbow sling to comfortably carry the HyperTac Pro during hunting trips then we recommend a Talon crossbow sling from Barnett. The Talon sling is adjustable from 32 to 40 inches.

Summary

The HyperTac Pro 430 is a compact powerhouse that shoots small diameter HyperFlite arrows with velocities of up to 430 feet per second with extreme precision.

This high-end crossbow is designed with a step-through riser and compatible with small diameter arrows for extreme accuracy and better penetration. The HyperTac Pro 430 is fully customizable for a perfect custom fit and very comfortable to handle.

The crossbow comes with a crisp zero creep TriggerTech trigger, a professional speed-compensating long range Halo scope, and an integrated quick-detach crank cocking device for smooth and fast cocking.
